Plight of school principals

Sir, – I would like to congratulate Breda O’Brien on her raw and insightful article on the role of the school principal (Opinion, September 11th).

As a retired primary school teaching principal with some 30 years experience, her comments and observations are visceral to say the least. I ask: who will acknowledge the ever-demanding workload of such a post, and try to alleviate some of the issues before it gets out of hand? Who will want this job in the future?

The principals of Ireland are truly committed public servants to the State. I salute you all.

– Yours, etc,

DAN GRAHAM,

Ennis Road, Limerick.
