Madam, - Being leader of a democratic political party, I am sure Ian Paisley agrees in the democratic principle of one person, one vote; one vote, one weight.
How can he then justify the requirement for the consent of a weighted, not a simple, majority, to alter the constitutional status of Northern Ireland (November 23rd)? If, for example, 60 per cent was the required figure, and a majority one short of this total emerged, the citizens within the blocking minority would have an individual voting weight 50 per cent greater than those within the majority. How democratic is this? - Yours, etc.,
