Sir, – Two previous governments agreed to impose a 10 per cent pay cut and a reduction in pension entitlements on new entrants to the teaching profession.
The next government should have no difficulty then in imposing the same level of pay and pension reductions on newly elected entrants to the Dáil.
Retired teachers were subjected to public service pension reductions. We presume the TDs who lost their seats will be happy to accept the same level of pension reduction as they imposed on retired teachers.
