Madam, - I am amazed (though perhaps I shouldn't be) at the number of drivers still using their mobile phones while driving, despite the practice being banned recently and included in the penalty points system.
I would not be at all surprised if some of those drivers are among those who are screaming for the Government to "do something" about the appalling carnage on our roads. - Yours, etc,
SAM IRWIN, Monkstown, Co Dublin.
Madam, - Memo to Minister Cullen and Gay Byrne. Now that legislation is finally in place regarding the use of hand-held phones while driving, why the reluctance to address the use of hands-free phone kits?
Any research that I've seen, including a recent US study featured in this week's Irish Times Motoring Supplement, indicates that using the hands-free phones is every bit as dangerous as the hand-held ones.
Surely the use of all phones while driving should be banned if we are being really serious about encouraging safer driving? - Yours, etc,
LOUIS HOGAN, Glandasan Drive, Wicklow Town.
