Madam, – The newly opened Limerick-Galway link is just one month old and I wish to salute Irish Rail and all concerned in its delivery. Having made the decision to try commuting by train instead of driving 280km per week, I am delighted to have this low-carbon option.

However, in order to entice the considerable commuting population of the Limerick-Shannon-Ennis-Galway corridor to change their habits and use the train, times of arrival and departure for these urban areas must be tailored to the working day. (My train currently gets into Ennis at 9.25am) Publicity at the opening was good; it got people excited and talking.

Now is the time for Irish Rail to make the changes. The result would be win, win, win: for commuters, Irish Rail and the environment. – Yours, etc,

EILIS O’NUALLAIN,
