Madam, - Calling for prayers for a renewal of faith in Ireland, Archbishop Sean Brady says: "I never regarded [ a renewal of faith] as a lost cause because it does not depend on me; it depends on the Holy Spirit and the Holy Spirit does not back losers" (The Irish Times, October 18).
But was it not because of "losers" that the Catholic Church in Ireland fell into disrepute? The state of the Church is largely due to losers. The Holy Spirit seems to have backed quite a few of them. - Yours, etc,
