Ireland and Britain

Sir, – Dr Jude Collins (September 19th) admonishes Irish people who adopt what he calls the "cultural cringe position" with regard to the similarities in cultural expression we have with our nearest neighbours. By contrast, Dr Sigmund Freud coined a term for Dr Collins's more upright position. He called it the narcissism of small differences. I wonder which doctor has the better diagnosis? – Yours, etc,
