How to judge when it’s time for lunch

Sir, – I was dismayed to read that our judges may not be adequately nourished at lunchtime since their usher support system was abolished in 2011 (“Judges unhappy with assistants’ support”, November 24th).

Although the Department of Justice may have some profound issues to deal with at the moment, it is imperative that it prioritises, forthwith, the restoration of the old usher system for our judges.

Otherwise we are going to have a glut of appeals by those of our citizens convicted during afternoon court sessions.

Justice must be seen to be done – on either side of lunchtime. – Yours, etc,

MICHAEL GANNON,

Kilkenny.
