Getting It Right

Sir, - I watched and listened to RTE's television report of the funeral of Mr Jack Lynch. In your purported transcription of Mr O'Malley's graveside oration (The Irish Times, October 25th), you allowed to be printed a superfluous "from", before "whence he sprang". Mr O'Malley did not utter such a tautology, as I noted with satisfaction at the time.

In your Corrections and Clarifications panel you do not specify what categories of error it is your policy to correct. It is time you included corrections of the increasing number of grammatical, syntactical and catachrestical errors which occur in the paper.

It would make a valuable contribution towards checking the general slide into incoherence. - Yours, etc., Paul V. Bowe,
