Sir, I refer to the article by Garret FitzGerald (June 10th), in which he asserted that Fianna Fail failed in this election to get the maximum seat returns from the votes cast.
This is yet another self serving article from Garret FitzGerald, whom I had to take to task previously in the Letters column of your paper, when he sought to rewrite history in relation to the disastrous management of the economy during his period in office as Taoiseach from 1982 to 1987.
It would be instructive for Dr FitzGerald to read the authoritative article by Jack Jones, published in the following day's edition of The Irish Times, which clearly shows that Fianna Fail had the best conversion ratio of first preference votes to seats in this election, ahead of Fine Gael and all other parties.
I do wish Dr FitzGerald would check his facts before he embarks on these flights of fancy, and that he would also accept that a win is a win. Yours, etc.,
General Secretary,
Fianna Fail
