Madam, – A headline over an opinion piece in your edition of February 11th wrongly referred to the “closure”of the Equality Authority. Nothing could be further from the truth as the Equality Authority remains open for business at its offices both in Clonmel Street, Dublin, and in Birchgrove House, Roscrea, Co Tipperary.

Like most public sector bodies, the Equality Authority will have to work towards its goals with more modest resources. This may limit what we have to spend but not what we may achieve.

The board and staff of the authority are even more determined than ever to drive the equality agenda forward. We will do so in partnership with all those individuals and organisations who are committed to equality in our society.

After 10 years in operation the Equality Authority has just agreed its new strategic plan for 2009-2011 which is soon to be launched and published. We look forward to implementing this in partnership with those who support an equality agenda for all.
