Sir, - Like most Europeans, Elisabeth spelt her name with an "s", not a "z". Another common error is to write of Maria "Theresa" of Austria instead of "Theresia".
Denis Staunton's article (Berlin Letter, August 25th) about Elisabeth stated several times that she was shot by an anarchist, but in fact a sharpened, long, thin file was used, and she was knocked to the ground by the force. The Empress thought that she had been punched in the chest. This caused a fatal delay before the gravity of her internal haemorrhage was realised. - Yours, etc.,
