Sir, - I read with disdain the letter from Aiden Lloyd (November 4th) in which he criticises Dr Reville's recent article on blaming the middle classes for the ills of the disadvantaged.
Mr Lloyd's vicious attack implies, that as a biochemist Dr Reville has no expertise in social matters and therefore any comments made by him about the disadvantaged are in some way invalid.
In my opinion, Dr Reville wrote the article, not as a biochemist, but as a person who applied the scientific principle of observation, and using a little common-sense formed an hypothesis. In short, Dr Reville is guilty of nothing more than proposing a politically incorrect (but valid) solution. - Yours, etc., Edward D. Rafferty,
