A chara, – Dublin commuters can see the spherical metal memorial sculpture beside Busáras and the Customs House. It is called the “Universal Links on Human Rights” and was erected over 25 years ago by Amnesty International to remind us of prisoners of conscience throughout the world.

It houses a perpetual gas flame which is a bad and wasteful message in today’s era of climate change.

Our Taoiseach implored the UN to show leadership in tackling climate change, and our Green Party recently had tenure of the Lord Mayor’s office. This flame should have been extinguished years ago but seemingly nobody of influence cared to notice or mention it. Our elected leaders need to walk the green talk. – Is mise
