A chara, – I live in Limerick City North, which has a population of 30,000 approx. We had two bank branches up to this month. Now the Bank of Ireland branch has closed, and AIB is closing next month, bringing its ATMs with them.
Business and private customers now have nowhere to lodge cash or cheques. This situation has been replicated all across the country.
The State holds a major shareholding in AIB. and a sizable one in Bank of Ireland. The politicians have been largely silent about the situation. Why?
