Sir, – We’re all very familiar with the term “ghost bus”; the one that just vanishes into thin air.
On Thursday night, my son was waiting for the 6.28pm Dart from Raheny to Bray. The information board read “delayed”, then suddenly the train vanished. No explanation, no apology, nothing.
Then suddenly, out of the darkness, the lights of the approaching train appeared. Already 10 minutes behind schedule, said Dart zoomed through the station, with passengers on board, but stopped for no one.
Perhaps this is Irish Rail’s formula for playing catch-up: just don’t bother stopping for the paying passengers and, even better, don’t tell them about it either.

Needless to say, my son wasn’t the only disgruntled commuter left stranded on the platform for the next train. You certainly wouldn’t want to be going anywhere in a hurry. – Yours, etc,
DEE DELANY,
