Planning at its worst

Letter of the Day

Sir, – Regarding Niamh Towey’s “We want people living there’: How Dundrum in south Dublin became a housing battleground ” (Saturday, November 15th), the development of Dundrum and district had been proceeding for decades in an orderly and well-planned fashion until the outrageous decision was made to permit a major shopping centre to be shoehorned into the confines of a small village instead of at the countless green field sites a bit further south.

The consequences have been (at least) twofold, the daily traffic chaos and disruption to residents in Dundrum and surrounding areas, and the loss of this prime site for the construction of a multitude of houses and apartments all adjacent to the Luas.

Planning at its worst. – Yours, etc,

PAT CLEARY,

Ballinteer,

Dublin 16.
