Advice on health insurance

Aside from a lie down after it all, what’s a girl to do, only to conclude it’s hard, if not impossible, to win

Sir, – Unlike Chris Coggins (Letters, March 30th) I have had a less than satisfactory experience with a health insurance broker. They have continued to recommend the same option for the last several years, despite a 56 per cent increase over that period, along with the introduction of excesses on claims (or “co payment” as I believe we are now calling them), all the while reducing cover.

When pointed out that this was contrary to popular advice that if you are on the same plan for a number of years it’s time to change, they put forth the argument of superior knowledge and that “this is general made for media advice which doesn’t reflect reality”. That told me.

As Brian Kelleher (Letters, April 2nd) goes on to note the HIA website is bewildering, if not, deliberately obstructive. Aside from a lie down after it all, what’s a girl to do, only to conclude, where health insurance is concerned, it’s hard, if not impossible, to win. – Yours, etc,
