Sir, – This election season we have been inundated with an unprecedented amount of flyers and posters, far more than in previous years, possibly due to the increased number of candidates.
Such unchecked distribution of election materials, in the face of climate change, is not just outdated but irresponsible.
Despite the surge in candidates, which one might expect to correlate with higher voter turnout, this does not appear to be the case. Is there a disconnect between public interest and the political process?
Maybe one other way to combat that would be for Ireland to follow in the footsteps of other European countries and lower the voting age to 16.
