Sir, – Karlin Lillington, in her commentary on the inconsistencies of Paddy Cosgrave’s stances (Business & Technology, October 26th), raises serious ethical and human rights questions for big tech companies sponsoring the Web Summit in the first place.
Tech companies, and their willing customers, are complicit in activities that belie any credibility when it comes to claims about equality, rights, and freedom.
Ireland’s Stripe too, can be included in the list, given a stance on a proposition in San Francisco concerning homelessness.
I note that one of the attractions offered by Web Summit is “fireside chats” with various tech luminaries and celebrities. These “chats” should be rebranded as “bonfires of the vanities”. – Yours, etc,
