Sir, – The NCT goes cashless (John Burns, “Cash is no longer king when you pay for your NCT car test”, Business, August 25th).
Whatever happened to the term legal tender – recognised by law as a means to settle a public or private debt or meet a financial obligation? An NCT isn’t a choice; it’s a legal requirement. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – I was extremely disappointed on learning that NCT Ireland has announced that it is going cashless.
This move is discriminatory in nature and affords the customer no choice of how to pay for the service they provide.
Unlike other business establishments who have chosen to go cashless, the motorist is unable to “shop around” for another provide of this service. The NCT is also a requirement by law for vehicles of a certain vintage.
The Government must place pressure on NCT Ireland to reverse this decision. – Yours, etc,
