Sir, – As a Dubliner living in Belgium for the best part of 25 years, I must have passed through Dublin Airport over 100 times. Recently, it struck me how there is a complete lack of reference to U2 in the airport. The Beatles get a blown-up photo of the “Fab Four” walking on the tarmac; boxer Katie Taylor gets a massive photo of her waving the Irish flag from an Aer Lingus cockpit, but U2 . . . nothing.
Does anyone doubt the impact U2 has made locally and globally as cultural icons? Am I the only one who thinks U2 put Dublin on the map as a city of hope and cultural significance in the 1980s, 1990s and beyond?
The clever campaign during Covid of Brennan’s Bread “Home At Last” was a sight for sore eyes. However, is it not time for Dublin Airport to be more welcoming and showcase U2′s iconic legacy? For a lot of us, U2 means “home” too. – Yours, etc,
