Sir, – I was blissfully unhindered by the notion of the existence of such an august body as the Irish Banking Culture Board until alerted to its existence by John O’Connell (Letters, October 1st).
Assuming it was inspired by Yes Minister, I was shocked to see that it is real and actually populated by a panel of titled worthies from the very zenith of Irish society, whose remit, at best, appears to be opaque and woolly. At least 16,000 of the “valued” customers of Bank of Ireland were impacted by the tracker mortgage scandal, with the loss of 327 properties, of which 98 were family homes.
Any chance the Irish Banking Culture Board could find their voice before we move on to the next demonstration of an ingrained and rotten banking culture, so us poor unfortunates could better empathise with the underpaid banking establishment? – Yours, etc,
TOMÁS FINN,
