A 15-year-old schoolboy was charged yesterday in connection with an incident on the M2 motorway near Belfast last weekend when a woman driver was seriously injured.

The youth, who cannot be named because he is under age, was accused of causing grievous bodily harm to a 56-year-old midwife from Portglenone, Co Antrim.

She was driving home on Saturday night when a large boulder was dropped on to her car from the Hightown Road bridge over the motorway.

The boulder glanced off her head and struck her on the shoulder but she managed to stop the car and was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital. Her condition is described as stable.

A detective told the court he believed he could connect the youth to the charge and said that although he was agreeable to him being released on bail, asked that certain conditions be imposed.

The magistrate, Mr Mark Ham- ill, ordered the youth to stay away from the Hightown Road, remain in his home after 8 p.m. and report to police at Glengormley on Friday and Saturday evenings.

The youth was released on his own bail of £50 with a surety of £500 to appear at the juvenile court on April 10th.
