A special wreath-laying ceremony will take place today to mark the 150 thanniversary of the death of the Argentinian Navy's founder - Irish man Admiral William Brown.

The Argentine sailing vessel the ARA Libertad docked in the capital yesterday.

The wreath-laying will be conducted by Junior Defence Minister, Tom Kitt, and Commander-in-Chief of the Argentine Navy, Admiral Jorge Omar Godoy, at the statue of Admiral William Brown on Sir John Rogersons Quay.

Also in attendance will be Lieutenant General Jim Sreenan, the Chief of Staff of the Defence Forces, and Commodore Frank Lynch, the Flag Officer of the Naval Service.

The ceremony will commemorate the 150th anniversary of the death of Admiral Brown, the Foxford-born founder of the Argentine Navy.

It is part of a week of events remembering the seaman's life and work which also involved a second wreath laying ceremony and museum opening ceremony in Foxford last Sunday.

ARA Libertad will be be open to the public for limited periods until its departure early next week.
