A woman (19) has been hospitalised after a hit-and-run in Co Laois early yesterday.
The woman was knocked by a car down while walking home with a man near Portarlington. The car, which was travelling in the opposite direction, mounted the footpath and hit the couple at about 3am yesterday.
The woman is in St Vincent's Hospital in Dublin, where her injuries are serious but not life threatening. The man is being treated in Portlaoise General Hospital.
Gardaí are investigating.
