Gardaí are seeking witnesses to a road crash on the N17 near Claremorris, Co Mayo, on Saturday afternoon in which a 38-year-old man was killed, writes Tom Shiel.

The victim was named locally yesterday as David McCorry, of Knocknacarra, Salthill, Galway. Mr McCorry’s wife was injured and is recovering at Mayo General Hospital in Castlebar.

The driver of the other car, a 33-year-old male, was injured and taken to hospital. The condition of both injured is not life-threatening. The collision occurred about 4.50pm at Lisduff on the Ballindine to Claremorris road. Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to phone 094-9372080.
