Dublin Zoo and the Fota Wildlife Park, Co Cork, have been closed as a precautionary measure to protect animals susceptible to foot-and-mouth disease.

The decision was made yesterday morning by the Minister of State at the Department of Finance with responsibility for the the Office of Public Works, Mr Martin Cullen, in consultation with the board of Dublin Zoo, which controls Fota Wildlife Park.
