A farmer who sprayed weedkiller without wearing a mask died from paraquat poisoning after the chemical got into his mouth, a Galway inquest has heard.

The Galway West coroner, Dr Ciaran MacLoughlin, appealed to those using sprays to wear a mask, as even the tiniest amount of the poison could be fatal. Martin Teven an (54), Meelick, Williams town, Co Galway, never wore a mask when spraying weed killer, his wife, Kathleen, told the inquest.
