Sanitary waste was once again washed up on the beach at Tramore, Co Waterford, at the weekend, causing anger among environmentalists and residents.
Walkers in Tramore on Saturday reported seeing condoms and nappies deposited on the beach and promenade.
Waterford County Council staff worked to clear the waste, but local activists say the problem is recurring.
Mr Michael Whelan, chairman of Saleens Environmental Group, has acknowledged work is to begin on a new sewage treatment plant in the resort but he remains concerned that in the meantime the problem is being ignored.
"The engineers in Waterford County Council should be able to predict when this problem will arise. This invariably occurs when the discharge of waste from an outfall pipe combines with south-easterly winds, like we had at the weekend."
