A WARRANT has been issued for a north Dublin man arrested by gardai investigating the murder of journalist Veronica Guerin after he failed to meet his bail conditions.

Mr Charles Bowden (32), from the Blackhorse Avenue area, is facing drugs and firearms charges.

He failed to appear in Kilmainham District Court yesterday for a remand hearing and Judge Hussey issued a warrant.

Mr Bowden was on bail totalling £60,000 and the money will know be estreated by the State.

The bail included a personal, cash surety of £30,000 which was lodged with the governor of Mountjoy Prison, where he had been held for a month before receiving bail. This will be estreated immediately. Gardai will also be applying for estreatment of an independent surety of £30,000 lodged with the District Court.

Mr Bowden had recently failed to meet bail conditions under which he had to report to Cabra Garda station daily.

He was arrested on October 7th last after gardai discovered £300,000 worth of cannabis in a unit at Ballymount Industrial Estate, in west Dublin. A number of firearms also were discovered.

The drugs and weapons were discovered by gardai, based at Lucan Garda station, who are investigating Ms Guerin's murder in June last year.

At Mr Bowden's committal hearing he was refused legal aide and remanded to Mountjoy. However, a month later he was released on bail and had continued to meet his bail conditions until the start of this week.

At the time of his arrest a small amount of cocaine was discovered at his house in The Paddocks off Blackhorse Avenue. However, another person is understood to have admitted responsibllity for this.

Mr Bowden is married with two young children but is separated from his wife.
