A High Court judge yesterday ordered a solicitor to remove her mobile telephone from court or else face the possibility of it being confiscated.

Mr Justice Lavan was hearing a planning permission matter when he observed a mobile phone in the possession of the solicitor.

The judge said that bringing a mobile phone into court was a contempt and he wanted it removed. If the solicitor did not have it removed, he would have it confiscated.

He then requested that the phone be removed from court and the solicitor left with it.
