Indonesia's largest political party has said its proposal that President Abdurrahman Wahid be censured a second time over two financial scandals did not mean it wanted the Muslim cleric ousted.
The Indonesian Democratic Party-Struggle (PDI-P), led by enigmatic Vice-President Megawati Sukarnoputri, holds the key to Mr Wahid's ultimate fate as the country's first democratically-elected leader.
If PDI-P's proposal is accepted by parliament and parliament decides to issue a second censure to President Abdurrahman Wahid, it should be viewed as far from efforts to topple the President, but (as an effort) to warn him, legislator Mr Dwi Ria Latifa told MPs during a hearing.
PDI-P's support for the second censure makes it highly likely a full session of parliament will formally issue the rebuke later on Monday, bringing the increasingly isolated cleric closer to possible impeachment.
