Racing: Alessandro Volta led home an Aidan O'Brien one-two as he landed odds of 6-4 in the totesport.com Derby Trial at Lingfield on Saturday.

Johnny Murtagh made just about all the running on the son of Montjeu, although he failed to handle the downhill bend and was strongly pressed late on.

Campanologist looked set to have a serious say in the outcome with a quarter of a mile to run.

But Godolphin's hope faded late as the winner's stablemate King Of Rome charged home for second.

The 16-1 shot was three-quarters of a length behind at the line as Alessandro Volta passed the post in front.

"The track wouldn't have ideally suited him - he's a big galloping horse," said Murtagh.

"He didn't come down the hill very well and didn't travel very well.

"But he got his act together in the straight and galloped all the way to the line and stayed on.

"He's a genuine galloper and moves very well - that should stand him in good stead for Epsom," he told Channel Four Racing.
