Aston Villa

Darius Vassell has failed to recover from the hamstring injury which ruled him out of England's friendly with Portugal in time for Aston Villa's home match with Charlton .

There is also a question mark over whether the 23-year-old will be fit for the derby with Birmingham City at St Andrews on Monday.

Veteran midfielder Ian Taylor is also still not available because of a calf injury, even though a scan revealed no serious damage.

Transfer-listed defender Ozalan Alpay is in contention after holding talks with Villa manager Graham Taylor, who is convinced he is in the right frame of mind to face the Addicks.

Team from: Enckelman, Delaney, Mellberg, Staunton, Wright, Hendrie, Kinsella, Barry, Allback, Angel, Crouch, De la Cruz, Samuel, Hitzlsperger, Postma, Hadji, Alpay.

Birminham City

Senegal skipper Aliou Cisse is Birmingham City manager Steve Bruce's only injury worry ahead of tomorrow night's Premiership clash with Liverpool at Anfield.

The former Paris SG midfielder picked up a knock on the calf when in action for his country against Lesotho in the African Nations Cup qualifying campaign at the weekend.

Cisse did not arrive back in England until yesterday but Bruce is confident he will be recovered sufficiently to face the Reds.

Ivory Coast defender Olivier Tebily is still sidelined through injury and Jeff Kenna will continue in what is likely to be the same side as defeated Leeds United 11 days ago.

PROVISIONAL SQUAD: Vaesen, Kenna, Cunningham, Purse, Grainger, Devlin, Cisse, Savage, D. Johnson, Morrison, John, M. Johnson, Horsfield, Hughes, Lazaridis, Bennett.

Blackburn

10/09/02: Damien Duff will miss tomorrow's visit of Chelsea to Blackburn after failing to recover from a thigh strain.

Blackburn's left winger, who has recently signed a new four-year deal, picked up the injury in the Republic of Ireland's 4-2 defeat by Russia on Saturday and will be out for two to three weeks.

Blackburn manager Graeme Souness said: "Since he signed his contract he has been on fire for us so it's disappointing."

Duff's injury may give a chance for Keith Gillespie to make an appearance on the right wing with David Dunn moving to the left.

Team (from): Friedel, Kelly, Johansson, Tugay, Dunn, Flitcroft, Mahon, Hignett, Thompson, Neill, Berg, Short, Taylor, Cole, Yorke, Grabbi, Todd, Gillespie.

Bolton

Defender Paul Warhurst has recovered from the head injury which forced him off in Bolton's last game, the victory over Aston Villa, to take his place in the squad to face Manchester United.

Warhurst needed stitches in the gash, but the week-and-a-half gap between the games means the 33-year-old will be part of what is expected to be an unchanged team at Old Trafford.

New signings Chris Armstrong and Ivan Campo are both working their way to full fitness after protracted transfer deals, while midfielders Stig Tofting and Jay-Jay Okocha are also back in training.

PROVISIONAL SQUAD: Jaaskelainen, N'Gotty, Bergsson, Whitlow, Charlton, Mendy, Barness, Gardner, Djorkeaff, Warhurst, Frandsen, Nolan, Ricketts, Pedersen, Holdsworth, Poole, Walters

Charlton

Charlton manager Alan Curbishley has added Jesper Blomqvist and Robbie Mustoe to his squad for tomorrow night's trip to Villa Park.

Paul Konchesky is suspended after being sent off on the opening day of the season against Chelsea and Scott Parker needs more time to recover from an ankle ligament injury.

Defender Gary Rowett might play a part too.

Curbishley said: "He has come through a reserve game, but he has had a back problem and we just take it day by day."

PROVISIONAL SQUAD: Kiely, Kishishev, Powell, Rufus, Fish, Euell, Jensen, Robinson, Brown, Rachubka, Pringle, Rowett, Bart-Williams, Bartlett, Young, Svensson, Johansson, Lisbie, Fortune, Blomqvist, De Bolla, Mustoe.

Everton

Everton defender Alan Stubbs misses the trip to Southampton as he serves his one-match suspension for being sent off a fortnight ago against Birmingham.

Everton will also be without goalkeeper Richard Wright who has still not recovered from an arm injury while Scottish defender Gary Naysmith has not yet recovered from ankle ligament problems.

The club's five international stars playing in weekend Euro' 2004 qualifiers all returned unscathed from their efforts and can expect to be in the squad that travels to Southampton.

Only Mark Pembridge with Wales was on a winning side, Thomas Gravesen, with Denmark, featured in a draw with Norway while Swedish stars Niclas Alexandersson and Tobias Linderoth also drew against Latvia. David Weir was part of the Scotland debacle in the Faroe Islands.

Joseph Yobo has picked up another ankle injury and a late decision will be taken on his involvement, while Chinese defender Li Weifeng could also be involved.

Team (from): Simonsen, Hibbert, Weir, Unsworth, Watson, Alexandersson, Li Tie, Gravesen, Pembridge, Linderoth, Rooney, Campbell, Radzinski, Rodrigo, Gerrard, Li Weifeng, Carsley.

Fulham

With no injury problems reported following the return of their internationals, Fulham have a full strength squad to choose from against Premiership leaders Tottenham at Loftus Road.

The Cottagers will be looking to bounce back from their defeat by West Brom which halted their bright start to the season.

PROVISIONAL SQUAD: Van der Sar, Finnan, Melville, Brevett, Goma, Malbranque, Legwinski, Davis, Boa Morte, Marlet, Saha, Inamoto, Sava, Collins, Hayles, Taylor, Ouaddou, Knight, Leacock.

Leeds

Teddy Lucic goes straight into the Leeds squad for tomorrow's St James' Park showdown with Newcastle.

Sweden international defender Lucic has been signed on loan from AIK Solna for the rest of the season pending the possibility of a permanent transfer, although the 29-year-old has been warned by manager Terry Venables he must fight for his place.

Striker Michael Bridges has a chance of travelling to the north-east and could be on the bench as he looks to end his two-year injury nightmare as he has not made a senior first-team appearance in that time due to Achilles and knee problems.

Provisional squad: Robinson, Kelly, Harte, Dacourt, Radebe, Viduka, Kewell, Bowyer, Barmby, McPhail, Wilcox, Smith, Mills, Bakke, Johnson, Matteo, Duberry, Batty, Burns, Lucic, Bridges, Martyn.

Liverpool

Liverpool will be without Vladimir Smicer for at least three weeks after he broke a toe playing for the Czech Republic last week.

But goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek, who had to pull out of Poland's win away to San Marino with a groin problem, is likely to have recovered to face Birmingham.

PROVISIONAL SQUAD: Dudek, Xavier, Hyypia, Henchoz, Traore, Carragher, Murphy, Gerrard, Cheyrou, Hamann, Riise, Diouf, Owen, Heskey, Kirkland, Diao, Baros.

Man Utd

Spanish international keeper Ricardo is standing by to make his Manchester United debut at Old Trafford tomorrow amid further fitness concerns over Fabien Barthez.

Ricardo has had just one reserve appearance since his £1.5 million move from Real Valladolid but Barthez is equally short on match practice, having made his season bow against Middlesbrough last week after struggling to get over a hip complaint.

Paul Scholes, controversially omitted from the England squad, faces a late test on his ankle injury, while stand-in captain David Beckham is also a slight doubt after suffering a bang on his calf against Boro which also ruled him out of international duty.

Controversial skipper Roy Keane continues his recovery from a hip operation while long-term absentees Gary Neville (foot), Wes Brown (ankle) and Quinton Fortune (knee ligaments) are definitely out.

Provisional squad: Barthez, Ricardo, Carroll, P Neville, Silvestre, Blanc, Ferdinand, O'Shea, Tierney, Roche, Beckham, Butt, Veron, Scholes, Giggs, Stewart, Pugh, Van Nistelrooy, Solskjaer, Forlan.

Newcastle

Craig Bellamy and Laurent Robert will be in the 16 for Newcastle's Premiership clash with Leeds tomorrow night after Bobby Robson reported a clean bill of health.

The Welshman, who came on as a substitute for Wales in Finland at the weekend, and the French winger, could yet be involved from the start, although Robson admits that Robert is the more likely to line up from the off.

Kieron Dyer has recovered from his shin problem while Greek defender Nikos Dabizas has a slight calf problem but is expected to be fit.

The Magpies will make a late check on Lomana LuaLua after his return from Sunday's Democratic Republic of Congo international in Libya.

PROVISIONAL SQUAD: Given, Harper, Hughes, Bernard, Elliott, Griffin, Dabizas, Distin, O'Brien, Speed, Dyer, Speed, Solano, Robert, Viana, Jenas, Acuna, Shearer, LuaLua, Bellamy, Ameobi.

Southampton

Former Everton winger Andrei Kanchelskis is in contention to make his debut for Southampton against his old club at the St Mary's Stadium.

Kanchelskis is expected to figure at some stage after joining on a free transfer last week as Southampton bid for their first Barclaycard Premiership win of the season.

Norwegian defender Claus Lundekvam has recovered from the hamstring injury he suffered against Liverpool last month but manager Gordon Strachan may decide to stick with centre-back Michael Svensson.

Swedish World Cup star Anders Svensson is expected to overcome a chest infection to keep his place in midfield while Latvian Marian Pahars is hoping for a recall to the starting line-up after being dropped for the 2-1 defeat at Tottenham.

Provisional squad: Jones, Dodd, M Svensson, Williams, Bridge, Fernandes, A Svensson, Delap, Marsden, Pahars, Beattie, Ormerod, Kanchelskis, Oakley, Tessem, Lundekvam, El Khalej, Niemi.

Tottenham

Tottenham manager Glenn Hoddle has to decide who misses out to accommodate new £7 million striker Robbie Keane's debut against Fulham at Loftus Road.

Veteran Les Ferdinand, Norwegian Steffen Iversen and Keane's fellow Republic of Ireland international Gary Doherty all have strong claims to partner skipper Teddy Sheringham up front for top-of-the-table Spurs.

It could even mean Keane being given a role just behind the front two with either Simon Davies or Matthew Etherington dropping out.

Impressive young defender Anthony Gardner should shake off a thigh strain and return to the back four alongside Dean Richards while midfielder Darren Anderton may also feature after missing the start of the campaign because of a knee problem.

Provisional squad: Keller, Taricco, Gardner, Bunjevcevic, Richards, Perry, Ziege, Thatcher, Davies, Acimovic, Redknapp, Etherington, Keane, Sheringham, Anderton, Iversen, Ferdinand, Doherty, Rebrov, Blondel, Hirschfeld.

West Ham

Paolo di Canio is included in West Ham's squad for the first time this season after finally overcoming a knee injury.

The Hammers captain, who suffered the injury against Charlton in April, will hope to play some part in the clash with West Brom at Upton Park tomorrow night.

Provisional squad: James, Winterburn, Dailly, Repka, Pearce, Schemmel, Breen, Carrick, Sinclair, Cisse, Cole, Kanoute, Defoe, Di Canio, Lomas, Labant, Courtois, Moncur, Minto, Garcia, Camara, Sofiane, Van der Gouw.
