A veteran motorbike rider was killed today at a road race in Northern Ireland.
John Donnan, 42, crashed during the Tandragee 100 meeting in Co Armagh. Stewards immediately abandoned all further racing.
Mr Donnan, from Ardglass, Co Down was killed at a chicane close to start-finish area as he tried to avoid another rider who had lost control of his bike.
The father of one, a former Irish Superbike Champion who ran his own JD Racing Team, had been competing in events for 20 years.
Bobby Edgar, Clerk of the Course, said organisers halted the rest of the meeting out of respect for Mr Donnan's relatives.
"The North Armagh Motorcycling Club extend its sympathy to John's family," he
added.
"We have done a lot of work on the circuit to improve safety, but it's a dangerous sport."
Mr Donnan's death, the latest in a series of tragedies to hit the sport, comes just a week before the annual North West 200 - Northern Ireland's premier festival of road racing.
