A driver had his van hijacked at knifepoint on a busy west Belfast street, PSNI officers said today.

A driver had his van hijacked at knifepoint on a busy west Belfast street, PSNI officers said today.

The man was sitting in the Ford Transit on the upper Springfield Road when the door was pulled open.

A PSNI spokeswoman said the suspect threatened him with a knife and tried to haul him from the vehicle, shortly after 4.30pm yesterday.

After the driver got out the man drove off in the white van, The Transit vehicle, registration AHZ 6723, also had an Ifor Williams trailer containing a small high lifted dumper. The driver was not injured during the incident.
