Van De Velde out of Scottish Open

A knee injury will prevent Jean Van de Velde from playing in the £2

A knee injury will prevent Jean Van de Velde from playing in the £2.2 million Barclays Scottish Open at Loch Lomond this week.

The Frenchman, famous for losing a three-shot lead at the last hole of the 1999 Open at Carnoustie, was in trouble in the European Open last week, missing the halfway cut after a second round 81.

He is due to take part in the final qualifying event for the British Open on Sunday and Monday, but is in a race against time for that.
