Value of trades on ISEQ rose 50% in 2005

The value of shares traded on the Irish Stock Exchange (ISE) last year rose by 50 per cent to €108

The value of shares traded on the Irish Stock Exchange (ISE) last year rose by 50 per cent to €108.8 billion, the ISE said today.

It said the index grew by 19 per cent, hitting a record high in December.

Four new companies started trading in 2005, joining the new Irish Enterprise Exchange (IEX). The value of companies on this index rose by 58 per cent.

Tom Healy, chief executive of the Irish Stock Exchange, said: "This is another outstanding performance by the Irish market, and the figures show clearly that the Irish Stock Exchange is the premier location for investors who wish to trade in Irish equities."
