Washington - The United States has yet to make a decision on participating in an armed peacekeeping force in East Timor, White House spokesman Mr Joe Lockhart said yesterday. "There is a UN mission that's been on its way to East Timor [and] we will wait for the results," Mr Lockhart said.

On Monday, the US State Department said the US would support an international effort to assist Jakarta, but later he revised the stance to urging Indonesia to adopt a "constructive approach" towards foreign help.
