Mr Isaias Samakuva won therace today to lead Angola's former rebel movement UNITA,filling the position left empty by the combat death last year ofthe group's founder-leader Mr Jonas Savimbi, ballot results showed. Mr Samakuva, formerly UNITA's representative in London andParis, won by a landslide 78 per cent a party congress, cappingthe group's transition from rebel army at war with the Angolangovernment for almost 30 years to political party that willcontest elections as early as next year.
