London - The war on terrorism has left a deadly legacy of unexploded cluster bombs which could maim or kill thousands of Afghan civilians, campaign groups warned yesterday.

US-led bombing missions have dropped some 600 cluster bombs, each containing 202 "bomblets", the campaigners claimed.

They estimated that up to 30 per cent of the 122,000 bomblets would not have exploded on impact.
