A call by a number of Arab countries for Israel to be suspended from international soccer was rejected at a meeting of UEFA's executive committee today.

UEFA president Lennart Johansson said: "We will continue to monitor the situation in Israel and follow the guidelines laid down by the United Nations.

"We will consider each case on a match-by-match basis but there are no grounds for a suspension at this stage."

Israel launched an military offensive against Palestinian strongholds on March 29th in riposte to a series of Palestinian suicide bombings.
