Two Senate office buildings were evacuated this afternoon after an alarm went off

Two Senate office buildings were evacuated this afternoon after an alarm went off. Police said they did not immediately know the cause.

The Capitol building was not affected and the Senate continued its work uninterrupted. These two office buildings have had several evacuations in recent months because of false or faulty alarms.

The alarm did not interrupt testimony by Federal Reserve chairman Mr Alan Greenspan to a House of Representatives committee.
