The pair, aged 43 and 34, were arrested more than a year after mother of three Irene White (43) was found stabbed to death at her home in Demesne Road, Dundalk, in April 2005.

Both were detained at Kells Garda Station in Co Meath under the Offences Against the State Act, 1939.

It is believed they were being questioned about withholding information.

Ms White was in her kitchen when her attacker broke into the house and stabbed her. Her body was found by her mother.

It is understood gardaí do not believe robbery was the primary motive in the murder.
