Two people were killed and three injured in a civilian helicopter crash in Northern Ireland tonight

Two people were killed and three injured in a civilian helicopter crash in Northern Ireland tonight. Unconfirmed reports indicate one of the injured is the rally driver Mr Bertie Fisher.

The RUC have yet confirm the names of those involved but the two who died are a 27-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman. Two of the surviviors are in a critical condition while the third is said to be stable.

The helicopter went down in Monea five miles outside Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh, according to the ambulance service.

A military helicopter based in Enniskillen flew a medical team from the Erne Hospital in Enniskillen to the scene and then transferred the three injured to the hospital.

The ambulance service said they received an initial report of five or six people having been injured but Mr Kenny McMahon, director of operations for the service, said: "Reports from the scene are that there are two fatalities and three injured, who were airlifted to hospital."
