The RDS yesterday conferred honorary life membership on two men for their significant contribution to Irish life, reports

Fr Austin McKeon, parish priest of Tulsk Co Roscommon and chairman of the village’s action group, was recognised for his work on local social issues.
He was commended for establishing a 10-bed community rest care centre, pre-school facilities, transport and a meals-on-wheels service.
John Ruddock was given the award in recognition of his contribution to music.

The Trinity graduate went on to become headmaster at Villiers school in Limerick, where he set up the Limerick Music Association.
