Two people have been arrested in Dublin after an improvised explosive device was thrown from a car last night.

Two people have been arrested in Dublin after an improvised explosive device was thrown from a car last night.

The incident occurred when gardaí, participating in a planned operation, attempted to stop a car on Killinny Road in Tallaght at about 10.15pm.

The device was thrown from the car as gardaí attempted to stop it.

The scene was sealed off and an Army bomb disposal team was called in.

The device was made safe at about 11.30pm and removed to Cathal Brugha Barracks for further examination.

Two people, a man and a woman both in their early 20s, were arrested at the scene.

The man is being detained at Crumlin Garda station and the woman is being held at Sundrive Garda stations under Section 30 of The Offences Against the State Act 1939.
