Two people were arrested following serious disturbances in east Belfast last night.

The two were arrested after violence broke out in the mainly loyalist Evelyn Avenue area yesterday evening.

A PSNI spokeswoman said the two men were believed to have been among a crowd of about 30 people who stormed into a street off the Newtownards Road and attacked a house.

Police said the house and a car in Evelyn Avenue were damaged and they were investigating reports of shots being fired into the crowd. There were no reports of injuries.

A short distance away, windows in houses at Bloomfield Court and Bloomfield Parade were shattered in stoning attacks.

Police were also investigating reports that around the same time last night, three cars were set on fire at Station Road off the old Holywood Road.

The PSNI spokeswoman said they were unclear about what had sparked the violence.
