Two people died in house fires at the weekend. Mr Joe Canavan (94) died in hospital following a fire at his home at Ardmore, near Carna, Co Galway, on Saturday afternoon. Mr Canavan, a bachelor who lived alone, was removed to University College Hospital in Galway on Saturday evening but died early yesterday morning.
A woman in her 70s died following a fire at her home at Palmerston Road, Rathmines, Dublin, yesterday. The woman, who lived alone, was pronounced dead at St Vincent's Hospital.
